Christmas Vacation

I am now in the boredom section of christmas break.
I have so far been to MN to the mall of america and seen "Alter Boyz" while Danielle was visiting. (Between blizzards that is)
Alter Boyz was great! I loved it. It makes fun of christianity in a good way, in a way that makes you think about the kind of christian you are. It's also very punny, which I like. I think I'm liking being the only audience member under the age of 40 in an audience, you get more attention from the actors and you know that you're the source of all the audience response... kinda fun.
I then got sick from my sister... Merry Christmas to me.
Then we played games at grandparents for christmas and yesterday we played Rock Band at my aunts' house (without the boys there!) Just practicing for when we do play with the boys... hehe.
Today I'm bored and watching a House Marathon.
Happy late christmas, Happy New Year and Enjoy the boredom!

Negating the stupidity of the world

I just took a crap-tastic test. It's so crappy that I'm blogging about it, that's how crappy it was. I didn't even do the extra credit because it was just so crappy... I can't wait until I'm a teacher and I'm teaching the class...my kids will actually learn something and I'll test them on the things they learned and studied! The big part of this semsester was on the 1890s-today. You know how many questions were on the test about those 7 chapters? 2 questions both about the 1920s!!!!!! Oh and make sure you know when the sewing machine was invented because it's on the test! Was it? No! (1846)
And when the zipper was invented, because it's on the test! was it? No! (1891)
And know which fabrics are natural, manufactured and synthetic because they're on the test! Were they? No! (natural-cotton, linen, wool, silk. manufactured-rayon, acetate. synthetic-polyester, nylon, acrylic and blends.)
How about, why were pantyhose invented? because they had to wear something under micro mini skirts!
Who invented blue jeans and why? Levi Strauss when he was panning for gold in California during the gold rush bc men kept ripping the butts out of their jeans. He also had the great idea of dying denim blue.
When were jeans made popular? they were adopted in the 60s as a symbol for liberating the working class.
Who pays $2,000 for a pair of vintage Levi 501 jeans? some dork in Japan
What's the difference between vintage and retro? Vintage is the actual old clothing (a dress made and worn in 1960) Retro is short for retrospective and takes inspirations from the past (a dress made and worn today that was inspired by or looks like one from 1960)
What is mod style? adopted by the Beatles and it was the belief that boys could wear pretty clothes too.
When was is popular for couples to dress alike? 1970s
When did Chanel start designing, where and when was her come back, and what did she design? She started in the 1920s in france, had her own couture house, her comeback was after WWII in 1946 (which was when Dior brought out his "The New Look") and she was known for making matching sweaters and skirts and making the suntan look popular.
Who invented Couture? Charles Worth
Who was Paul Poiret? He was a french couturier in the 1930s (with Erte and Vionnet and Schapairelli) that liberated women by getting rid of the corset and creating the hobble skirt, which tied the knees together and made women hobble--also known as the speed limit skirt.
I could go on forever!!!!! Does this test show that I know something? No, because it was written so crappily! I should have just written "watteau back" 50 times on it because there were 5 questions on that, asking the same thing 5 different ways!!!!! And, I had the best presentation in the class, BY FAR and i get a 98/100. Why? because she's mad at me and doesn't want to give me 100.
I am going to be a good teacher because I have to negate the stupidity of the world!

Motivation for sale?

Anyone have motivation bottled and for sale? When is science going to think that up? They'll make a bazillion dollars when they do! Especially in college bookstores!
What stinks is when I get motivated, I have to clean first before I can do anything so I have a space to work on! There are just some things that don't have a place to live because they're used to much... so where do they go when they're "away"? On the other half of the room...that I have to clean before I can do the next project. Maybe there's a flaw in my system...
Then there are the things that I just plain hate doing. I don't mind doing laundry, but I hate putting my clothes away. I don't mind loading the dishwasher, but unloading it isn't fun. And cleaning bathrooms...there isn't anyone that likes doing that!
I fly out in 5 days!!! Eeek! All I have to do is a costume design project where I turn people into bugs, make soup and find a white elephant gift and go to a christmas party that i really don't want to go to, read a half of a costume history text book and take an exam on it, build a bustle and a dress to go over it, and clean my entire house--including the really messy craft room. Ready... set... maybe I'll start on that tomorrow.

It's December, right?

It sure doesn't feel like December... There's still leaves on the trees and I'm outside running around in the sunshine and 50 degree weather today! It's supposed to be cold raining tomorrow though, so don't hate me too much. I'm going to go study for finals some more... Lord, let me be driven and focused for just one more week!

Happy December!

Happy December all! Huzzah! It's finally here!
Fun story from today. I was coming downstairs from my costume history class today and was about to go through the double doors when Darin opens the door, "hi, Britta." And he stops to hold the door open for me.
Just then, Willie comes through the other door, "hi, Britta." and stops to hold open that door.
Now I'm standing there with both doors open for me about to go through.
Just then, Wade comes around and stops, "hi, Britta." He stands next to Darin and holds that door open for me (even though it's already being held open.)
"Hi my 3 southern gentlemen," I said as I walked through the doors.

I later told this story to Diane and Danielle along with my husband from the plane story. I then realized that I have a lot of fun experiences in my life. Everyone has these experiences, but I think my outlook on life is such that I just notice and enjoy it more. I like irony more than the normal person I guess... I'm not sure. We then discussed that I should go to grad school in creative writing. UA has a great creative writing program I hear. Diane said that she'd buy a book I wrote because it would be ironically funny. That made me feel good. I will write a very random book someday I think. I'll keep ya posted!
